1959 Rear Door Scotty For Sale

$

0

~~SOLD~~

Looking for a vintage trailer that is small, cute and rare? Well this rear door Scotty might be just what you have been waiting for! Here is what the seller has to say about it.

I know you hear this all the time, “rare” Scotty for sale. In this case, that is correct. This is the rarest model Serro ever made. It was manufactured for only six months in 1959 and 1960. We know of only six of them still in existance and only three of those are on the road and in use.

This one is the personal trailer of the owner of the National Serro Scotty Organization. It was to be my forever trailer, but life changes and now I am selling it. I did a frame-up rebuild on it, even replacing the axle. More pictures may be seen at http://nationalserroscotty.org/1959scotty and you may see the full rebuild pictures at http://nationalserroscotty.org/rebuilds/scotty7 It took me over a year to do this rebuild and nothing but the best went into it, along with a lot of love and attention to detail. The trailer weighs 1180 pounds and there is a clear Michigan title. Asking $10,250.

Please check each picture carefully, as well as review the full rebuild pictures. I think I have explained everything. There is nothing wrong with this trailer and since the rebuild, there have been zero leaks. This is a very well built trailer and since I did not put plumbing or propane back into it, there are no openings that critters can come in through. This trailer is sold as is and must be picked up in Delton, Michigan which is near Kalamazoo. If you have any questions you may reach me at nkroes@yahoo.com.

1965 Frolic with Bathroom For Sale

$

~~~ THIS TRAILER IS NOW SOLD ~~~
This cutie is mine (owned by Little Vintage Trailer) and is 13 ft long and 16 including the tongue. It has a double bed in the rear, a fold down bunk above and the dinette also folds down. Will sleep 5-6 comfortably. It also has a bathroom with toilet. It has new flooring. Newer dorm fridge. I will include the original AQUA propane fridge that I was told needs a new little spring and ball bearings for the ignition switch. It’s in very nice condition. The trailer also has a aqua sink and stove. The birch wood throughout is in very good condition with the exception of some old water damage to the rear left corner and a bit under the front window. It is completely dry now and camp ready.
Just last month the following was done by American Vintage Camper restoration shop;
* All seams re-sealed with new butyl tape and new screws.
* Bearings re-packed and seals replaced
* Propane line checked
This is a roomy little trailer and easy to tow. It weighs 1,600 lbs. It has clear title and ready to go camping! It’s a 1965 so it’s not perfect and has blemishes here and there so keep that in mind but it a great solid trailer that will give you years and years of glamping/camping fun!
The exterior skin is in very good shape. It has a couple dings but nothing major and is very straight. I could see this trailer’s stripe (gray area) painted in aqua! That would be so pretty and really make it pop!
The tires are in good shape also. Overall this is a very solid trailer and will provide someone with many many years of enjoyment I’m sure.
CLEAR MI TITLE! Sold As-Is.
1968 Scotsman For Sale
~~ THIS TRAILER IS NOW SOLD ~~
1968 Scotsman travel trailer. 15 ft. Clear Idaho title. Newer flooring. New water pump for sink. Brand new cushions for dinette but I have the original recovered cushions that match the goucho (couch). Original cushions for goucho have been recovered and upper bunk has original mattress. This little trailer is in great shape on the inside. I painted the interior as it was totally white and boring when I bought it. Original exterior paint job could use a refresh but is usable and cute just the way it is. I planned to rotate this cutie into my girl camping fun but I simply don’t need several so I’m thinning the herd. The photos with white walls are to show the goucho with the cushions in place. The mattress is not included as I was just making a more comfortable bed than the goucho would provide.
The tires are in good condition and the cone-style hubcaps are shiny and nice. This trailer is camp ready and road safe. No bathroom as is the case with most tiny trailers. This little retro baby is a girl campers dream waiting to be camped in.
Hi-Lo Renovation Day 7, 8 and 9
$
0
0
Whew, it’s been awhile since I posted on how the renovation is going on the 1961 Hi-Lo, so I figured I better get a post up here to show you where I’m at. I decided to clump together day 7, 8 and 9 because basically day 7-8 were just boring mundane stuff.
Keep in mind that these days aren’t concurrent. It was one day here…another day there. A lot of times it just depended on my schedule. Life tends to get in the way of these projects at times.
In any case, to catch you all up to speed, I have the following done;
1. Re-installed the roof, added new butyl tape and re-installed the J-rail and awning rails. Installed them all with new stainless screws. Let me just say that it’s definitely more of a challenge putting things back together than it is taking them a part. In this case the roof was a challenge because I added thicker insulation. Because of that it was more difficult to get the J-rails back on. The insulation I used was a tad thicker than the space allowed between the ceiling and the roof. I finally got it and hopefully it’s all sealed up tight and we won’t experience any leaking at the seams. Time will tell.
2. Stripped the two front quilted sections. Underneath the blue was a layer of black. I re-painted those white and hated it, so stripped them again and now planning on just polishing them.
strip
Notice the left side of the roof as seen below is clean? Brillo pads work wonders for cleaning aluminum like this.
painted
P1010876
3. Painted the door side and curb side a off-white on the top half of the trailer. The bottom half will be key lime green. I had my little helper helping me :) I’m using Behr Premium Plus Ultra paint and primer in one, semi gloss and applying it with foam rollers. I’m actually surprised at how nice it looks. Of course it’s not a professional paint job but heck this is a so much more cost effective and if I get a couple years out of it I’m fine with that! I mean it’s such a tiny camper it doesn’t take much paint :)
P1010845
4. Installed the sub-floor and floor. Installing sheet vinyl is just a pain in the ARSE! There is just no nicer way to put it. Maybe some people just have a knack for it but the floor is one thing that I want to look perfect and it was definitely challenging me. The best way to install it is to create a template using poster board and then lay it on your vinyl and cut right along the edge of your template with a utility knife.
floor3
subfloor
I think it turned out fantastic! You can’t go wrong with classic black and white checkers.
floor1
 5. Painted the tongue. I spruced up the tongue by giving it a new black paint job. Not quite finished with it as you can see. But it looks better already! Next will be the propane tank.
tongue
So that’s what I’ve accomplished so far. Next will be finishing stripping and polishing the front and rear quilted sections and then tackling the body paint. Thank you for following me along on this journey to renovate this cute little Hi-Lo. It’s a lot of work but very rewarding too. I can’t wait to finish it and take it on it’s first camping trip! Here is one last photo of Chiclet. I pulled her out from under the carport as it made it easier to work on her.
Until next time, Happy camping!
1959 Kenskill For Sale
$
1959 Kenskill for sale. The model is a 19.5, and the box is 17 ft long x8 ft wide. I have loved and adored her since the day I found her up in a muddy field. It was the model I had been searching for and I wasn’t gong to let this on get away. Once I got up to Portland from the Sacramento area, I saw what rough condition she was in. Out in that big ole wet ,snowy ,dirty field all alone. But it was the floor plan I wanted, big bed in back, toilet, shower, great big ole windows all the way around. She was grimy no question about that I was told I was the third owner and I was going to treat her right. Bought her a new set of tires in  Mt Shasta.
Took her home and started to do the spit shine and elbow grease on her. Had the bark cloth material waiting for the right lady to hang curtains in and got busy sewing up a storm. Had the dinette benches rebuilt and recovered. New backslash and up graded the electrical. New counter was built and a vessel sink dropped in .New plumbing, new toilet ,new laminate floorin, new ten inch thick mattress to slip into the bed frame. I cook on a induction plate I hide in the oven. It gives me so much more usable counter space. New awing and new moons too.
Electric jack helped me enjoy the camping part more. I freshened up her paint job. I had the LP capped off. The furnace removed and replaced with an electric fireplace .New microwave. But I kept the original stove top and double yellow sink if your desire is to bring her back to the original state. All windows work and the NorCold works great on electric. I have not tried the LP. A wee bit of water damage and I didn’t want to paint over. Roof was been resealed and winterized 2014. No leaks.
Finished renovation of the 1961 Hi-Lo
$
TA DA! Oh happy day, it’s done! Whew…let me just say that it was a LOT of work, a lot of sweat, a little blood and a few tears {of frustration} along the way but it’s finally done! I call it done but I do have a couple things left and one is to figure out the best way to re-vamp that front window rock guard you see in the first photo. For now it’s done though and I’m ready to go camping!
If you visit this page –> http://littlevintagetrailer.com/category/articles/restoration-maintenance/ you can scroll back through the posts and see the renovation progress on this trailer.
So without further ado, here are some before and after photos for your viewing pleasure. I hope you like it! Oh and sorry but Chiclet is not for sale at this time.
BeforeAfter
I have to give a little shout out to George over at www.robossonsupply.com for the fast shipping on the itty bitty shutters. If you need shutters these guys have all different sizes and ones that are paintable too!
Dinette/bed area “Before”. Not bad at all right? Although this photo doesn’t show the rot around the lower edges of the top half that I replaced. But overall this little 9.5 foot trailer was in good shape.
P1013611
Dinette/bed area “After”. I had Deb over at www.cushionrecoverie.com whip up some zippered cushion covers for me and I love how they turned out. I installed the new checkered flooring and sewed the curtains. I also re-stained and shellacked the birch. Getting a good photo in a 9 1/2 foot trailer is a challenge so I had to sit on the kitchen counter :)
dinette3
Here is another angle. In this one you can see a peek of the hammock. Yes, believe it or not there is a way to set up a hammock in here and I’ll show you that in a minute. Also a teeny peek at the ceiling. I took off the roof aluminum, tore out the white fiberboard ceiling and replaced it with birch that I stained/shellacked.
dinette1blog
I’ve been asked how I plan on decorating the interior and honestly I haven’t given much thought to that really. Mainly because I have been too busy just trying to get the trailer done and also when I think about decorating it I have to keep in mind that the top half comes down onto the lower half, so that means anything you put on the walls would have to come down. So for now I think I’ll just enjoy the look of the birch and will maybe add few things for the kitchen counter.
Kitchen “Before”. Again, nice shape to begin with. Notice the ceiling? I like the birch ceiling better. I also added a layer of insulation between the new birch ceiling and the roof.
P1013612
Kitchen “After”. The main thing I did is rejuvenate the wood by re-applying stain and gloss and of course adding curtains.
kitchenblog
Ok, remember I mentioned how you can add a sleeping hammock? Here is how it works. I’ll update this photo once I get a better one. It was dark and not the actual bedding I will use. But you’ll get the idea. My 5 year old will sleep in the hammock. So technically it will sleep 3; two adults and a small child. If we absolutely had to we could also put a cot on the floor in front of the kitchen and sleep one more person there, but that would be a challenge for those midnight runs to the port-a-john! Oh and in the photo below, under the bed we keep 3 storage bins with lids that hold clothing and essentials.
Another view showing the area where you could actually place a cot on the floor for another person.  There is about 28-30 inches width and 6 feet in length for a cot.
So there you have it. A renovated 1961 Hi-Lo. Someone asked me recently if now that I’m done with this one am I ready to start on another? Um, no. While this was a lot of work (especially installing the new seal and replacing rot), it was fun too but I’m ready to now take it out on some camping trips and enjoy it. Plus I need to get up to the Tiny Lake House and finish up the Chalet tiny house.
If you see us towing Chiclet down the road be sure and wave!
Happy Camping!
How to make lamp for your vintage camper
I actually made this little lamp about a year or so ago and have been meaning to get this tutorial up on the site for some time. So without any further delay here it is. These little lamps are easy to make so dig out those vintage thermoses and spice tins.
Materials
WARNING: It’s vital that you use either all new materials or that you inspect any electrical lamp parts to make sure none are frayed and all are in proper working order.
* Lamp kit or parts from a existing lamp
* Thermos or Tin
* Small lamp shade
* Pliers
* Flat head screw driver
* Sand or rocks
Steps
1. Gather your supplies. The lamp parts I used look like this. I used parts I got from taking a part a thrift store lamp.
lampstep1
.
2. Drill a hole in the top and bottom side of your thermos or spice tin. This application could apply to really any type of container that you can drill holes into.
lampstep2
3. Feed your lamp cord into the thermos or spice tin like shown below. At this point you can add either sand or rocks to the container to help weigh down the base (this will help prevent it from tipping over) if it’s a small base.
lampstep3
4. Now twist the wires around each of the terminals (screws) and tighten down with a screw driver. Push down the top into the base and add your bulb and shade.
lampstep4
Voila! Eazy Peazy. Now you have a lamp to sit on your table or counter in your camper.
