Little Vintage Trailer in the New York Times

I wanted to share with you all the news that Little Vintage Trailer made it onto the front page of the Home & Garden section of the New York Times on Nov 6th. Here is a link where you can read the online version: http://www.nytimes.com/2014/11/06/garden/a-passion-for-vintage-trailers.html?_r=0

It’s been quite a whirlwind of activity behind the scenes since then so I’m just now getting a few minutes to share the news with you all.

NYtimes2

First, let me just say that the folks over at NY Times are top notch to work with! Both the writer; Steven Kurutz and photographer; Tony Cenicola were great to work with and very down to earth.

Steven and Tony came out to my place from New York on different days of the week. Steve spent a great deal of time sitting with me inside the trailers asking questions and just getting a feel for the space. I do believe he found the trailers quite charming {although how could someone not right?}. After several hours, Steve headed back to New York to start working on the story.

The following Saturday Tony Cenicola who is a NY Times photographer came out to do a photo shoot. It was a neat experience. I have a new found respect for models that have to brave all kinds of weather when doing photo shoots because it was cold! I was dressed in semi-summer/early fall type clothing and it was 30-something degrees out! Both Tony and I came inside the house several times to warm up.

I was having some fun by taking photos of the photographer :)

Did I mention how cold it was? Immediately after photos were taken I bundled back up in my coat.

For all of the photos that are taken during a photo shoot only less than a handful actually make it into an article. It was great to see several of the 1963 Yellowstone made the printed version. In the online version, four photos made it in the photo slideshow. There is a lot of time that goes into a photo shoot. It’s much more involved than simply point and shoot. There is lighting equipment, shooting at the right angle and sometimes the time of day plays a factor into getting a great shot. I remember all this from back when I took my then 61 Shasta Compact to a photo shoot for American Greetings company and remembering just how much is involved. Excellent photographers are true artist!

Anyway, I hope you’ll check out the article http://www.nytimes.com/2014/11/06/garden/a-passion-for-vintage-trailers.html?_r=0  {Hint: I find the slideshow photos are best viewed in Google Chrome or Firefox}.

Feel free to share the link and I hope I did you all proud in representing our love for these little trailers.

1957 Woodie Love Bug 12′ Restored Vintage Trailer

The Cutest Child Sized Trailer Ever Built!

$

ButchStarnerTS1FBThis is the most adorable little trailer I think I’ve ever laid eyes on! It was built by Butch Starner for his granddaughters. It’s not just an ordinary play house for kids though and is built just like a regular sized trailer with all the features of a larger one.  The workmanship on this little camper is amazing! Butch transports this cutie in the back of his pickup truck. His granddaughters are lucky little girls to have such a wonderful little camper of their own.

For size comparison, the teenage girl standing next to the trailer is 5′ 9″.

The bed makes up into a cute dinette.

ButchStarnerTS5FB

In the closet there is even a little port-a-potty!

1959 Mar-King Vintage Camper For Sale

$

1959 MarKing 10’ Vintage Travel Trailer (7’ x 9 1⁄2’ box)

Here is an opportunity to put your own stamp on a tiny trailer project. This
1959 10 foot trailer had most of the interior stripped out when we bought it.
We hoped to renovate the trailer but due to health issues we are unable to
complete it at this time.

We removed one window in order to see if the framing had any issues & it
appears to be fine & solid. There is no fresh water tank & the trailer should be
rewired before taking it on the road camping. The interior ceiling is right at 6
feet, so most of us can stand in it completely upright! The roof appears to have
had a coating applied previously and the trailer DOES NOT LEAK, and has
not for the 2 years we’ve owned it.

The trailer is fairly light and can be towed by vehicles smaller than full sized
trucks. I do not know the actual weight but my husband can lift the tongue up
and wheel it around the driveway with relative ease. The receiver hitch on the tongue should be replaced as it’s top lever is missing but the spring catch does still work.
We have an RV shop down the road in the event you wanted any work done prior to towing. We towed the trailer from southern Michigan to Tiffin, Ohio without any problems. If you wish to have it shipped we can help coordinate details. Our zip code is 44883.

The original colors were white for the body with accents in red – you can still
see faint outlines of the original striping and decals to help you restore her if that’s what you want to do. The screen door is original, and I believe the outer door to be original too, but it needs work (obviously)! The windows all swing out and have screens.

Restore to your taste & decor and enjoy camping or use as a backyard retreat.
All in all a little cutie to make you happy without spending thousands of dollars.

Never had a title & bill of sale provided at time of purchase. More pix are available just ask and we will send them to you.

Before and After Vintage Trailer Dinette Cushions

$

You can never have enough posts about trailer cushions right?? Here are some cushions I did awhile back but forgot to publish this post {oops}. So I’m publishing it now so you all can see how they turned out.

These cushions are from a 65 Frolic. They are actually in very good shape. Almost like new in fact, with a nice quality fabric and zippers. Someone had them professionally recovered at some point. However, they are the wrong color. They are like a lavender color. So I decided to recover them.

cush1

Some of you may remember the post about The Cheaters Way to Recover Cushions Being the busy person that I am, that is the method I chose. Yeah, it’s a cheat for sure but you know, life is short and I don’t want to spend hours and hours of it sewing cushions. I’d rather be out camping instead :)

Here are the results.

I’ve decided to not recover the rear cushions because that will end up being a permanent bed. This photo below shows you the lavendar color a bit better. I went with aqua of course to match the appliances.

1967 Scad-A-Bout teardrop trailer For Sale

$

Purchasing this trailer changed our lives and now the time has come to pass this gift onto someone else. With this rare 1967 Scad-A-Bout we camped no matter what the season. It weighs about 600 lbs. and can be towed by most 4-cylander cars. The kitchen has been remodeled with waterproof laminate, the doors and windows resealed, the electric rewired (and we added a brand-new sealed deep cycle battery), and the plumbing is new. This teardrop trailer has a 2-burner propane stove, a small sink, and a ice-box refrigerator. There is also storage space next to the fridge and under the kitchen in addition to the sleeping area. The sleeping area is about three-quarters of a full mattress and comes with a new feather mattress that fits well.

It’s the perfect camping mate and increased our time, love, and enthusiasm for the outdoors exponentially.
